This is my grandmother, Dorothy Jeanne Porter @ogmadot .

My grandma has been one of my favorite people in the world since I can literally remember.
I've been trying to soak up all the grandma time I can before she and my grandpa move to CO. Today we went to a dog show and to @woodfourbrewing for a late lunch then to @brewtaylorlane for a coffee. Where I snapped this shot of her. Dorothy Porter, in case you can't tell from this picture is a badass. At 91 she still walks her dogs a mile a day. She works out with a personal trainer 2 times per week. She holds a Bachelor's degree from University of California Berkeley and a Master's from Dominican. She got her Masters while raising 4 Children with a husband who worked full time!!!! At a time when many women were not very welcome in an academic setting she helped pioneer the field of of special education focusing on teaching children with learning disabilities how to be successful. She's a gifted artist and her watercolor and multi-medium work has been featured in galleries around the Bay Area. She's also the best damn grandma there ever is, was or shall be. I am lucky to know her. All that to say... I took a break today to hang out with my grandma. And I'm not sorry. This is what life is for, spending time with the people who matter. .

You ever have those days where you just want to shoot your partner out of a cannon? Welllll I think today we've reached that point with each other with ripping up this STUPID floor. Like with remodeling anything old you just don't know what you are going to get when you start. We have happily discovered the lights, engine and many other part of this vehicle work beautifully! Buuuut one thing that been really frustrating is the floor of the RV has 4 layers! Metal sheet, with plywood, then more plywood, then a layer of particle board then the actual laminate flooring. So wait... 5 layers. The thing is due to moisture issues caused by lack of maintenance the particle board is coming up in peices ... And the laminate is so old it's just crumbling. So what we thought would be a 1 day tear out job is now on day 3. Additionally the previous owner was a heavy smoker and even though I've used liquid sander on every surface at this point I'm just peeling back layers of oil and nicotine and haven't even started taking off the cabinet gloss.. tonight we will be heading to @homedepot to pick up a miriad of paint and supplies so we can start the interior decorating... Ya know... BEFORE we put the floors, in! ... I'm low key stressed.... No that's not true. ... I'm high key stressed! I just want to get to the fun part where we decorate it and make it beautiful 😍 .... Pray for us y'all.

RV UPDATE! We're about 80% done with demolition bu

RV UPDATE! We're about 80% done with demolition but today we had an... EXCITING Turn of events?? Today when we turned off the RV it kept running. 🤷🤯 We learned this is called "run on" and it's common with RVs that have been sitting for awhile and it's caused by old gas. So we have to go put high octane gas in it and drive it around to clear out the engine... And here I thought we'd be removing the rest of the floors and stuff today! We're also waiting to make an appointment with an RV repair person to have the engine and drive train looked over and spruced up. It's a steep learning curve here! So far we've spent about $300 on Reno... EXCITING ANNOUNCMENT!! Today we bought a 1985 Fleetwood Bounder!!!. We plan to renovate her and make her into our tiny house on wheels! Ya know, like one does when one is a millennial and lives on the road. We will be in the Bay are for a couple months renovating and fixing her up... And before you ask, no, we have no RV experience. Today is the first time we even drove an RV. We paid $2000 for her ... Let the madness begin!

While I may look smiley and effortless in this photo I was actually terrified and wobbly... Which is ironically a metaphor for our life right now. We're amidst a big change ... We're heading back to the US for awhile and tbh other than a marketing strategy for our online business we haven't got a plan for our life. Like ... we're going to be in the Bay Area for a couple of weeks.. maybe months...? Idk. Honestly I am still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that we are going to be leaving Europe. I feel like I'm back in the middle of this bridge and the wind is whipping around me and I don't know what's on the other side and I am looking out over the sea wishing I was back where we started. At the same time... I am excited for the transition...and even though being on the bridge is fucking terrifying.. it's also kiiiindof exciting. .

Before he was swinging swords Matt attended @thetechacademy so he could harness his coding skills. It was a significant investment of both time and money but in the long run, the Bootcamp is what has allowed us to build our own tiny software development company and thus travel full-time. Did it make us rich? No. WILL WE BE RICH ONE DAY?!

Probably also no. But we've definitely made back our investment in the Bootcamp! .
Here are 5 tips for choosing the right Bootcamp!
1. Look at graduation rates! (Above 80%). And make sure the company that studies the graduation rates is a third party.
2. Talk to the sales/ recruitment team and ask them the hard questions. They should look you dead in the eye and give you a great answer.
3. Know if you want to get a job or start a business/ freelance beforehand.
4. Do they have a way for you to connect with other students outside of class if you're remote? This is one thing the Tech Academy lacked that we wished we would've asked about ahead of time.
5. Before you take the Bootcamp know what languages are preferable for the type of work you want to do? Do ya wanna make videogames? Then you need to be a Java Guru, are you a data nerd? Then Python is probably your jam.
We hope these tips helped you. We wish we would have known these things before. Know that it's easier to succeed in a Bootcamp if you have some coding experience beforehand (Matt had studied it for over two years on his own). So it might behoove you to check out @freecodecamp or @teamtreehouse for a lower cost learning experience before jumping in the deep end. I've been wearing this sweater and scarf almost every single day since this picture was taken and I have only washed it once....This picture was taken over a week ago. To say this year has not been what I envisioned when we pulled away from our little bungalow on Schiller street 1 year ago today would be an understatement.

That's the reality of being a nomad. Ya get a couple of outfits and a couple of shots at doing your laundry and you just have to make it work in the meantime. .
.
I get people messaging me every single day asking me "How do you afford to travel so much?" The answer is, we literally gave up everything. We went all in, we sold off our house our cars most of our personal belongings save 4 storage bins we keep stored at a family member's house and we put EVERYTHING into our work and business. I go without washing my clothes for days, I eat chips for dinner sometimes, and I am on my computer constantly. And when I tell people that they tend not to message me back again. For most that's too high of a price. They aren't willing to sacrifice as much. They think we're on a perpetual vacation and they want to escape their reality and join us but guys... this isn't our vacation.. this is our life. Its a special one, it's one a lot of people don't get and I am grateful every damn day for the things, people and experiences we have the opportunity to encounter but... there's no magic pill that makes all your personal problems go away. Being a Digital Nomad means choosing a life of adventure over one of comfort to get started. .

Matt and I have been doing a lot of talking about

Matt and I have been doing a lot of talking about what we've done this year.... where we've been and most importantly where we want to go in 2020. We've had a lot of failures this year if I am being completely honest... I can identify at least 30 times where choices I personally made prevented us from being more financially successful in our business and as a serial over achiever reconciling that with myself has been super hard.... there's been a lot of tears the last couple of weeks, a lot of anxiety attacks. We didn't meet our financial goals this year, we made a lot of mistakes... and I 100% had a nervous breakdown yesterday about it. Not even gonna lie I was just SO sad. But today is a new day. Today I choose to look at myself and our achievements through kinder eyes. I realize it's not about balancing the scales of failure to success.... it's about whether or not we've LEARNED from our mistakes and how we choose to move forward. Going into 2020 we're trying some new things, coming up with some new business strategies and discovering new ways of making money and creating value for our customers. I've actually been investing in learning some more technical skills. I'm currently taking an Instagram course with @instituteofcode taught by @hellotinamay and I am already learning a ton. We've realized last year was one of reaction, and learning. This year is going to be the year of #intention and #planningahead I am sure there will be mistakes in 2020, I am sure there will be more tears, but if I have learned anything from 2019 it's that choosing #bravery and #failingforward is what helps us #reachforgreatness ... stay tuned. Happy New year guys! Looking back on 2019 is a trip. We sold our house, quit our jobs, moved to another state, Matt Graduated from University, we started our own company and we've been to 11 Countries! I think we've managed to fit a lifetime of experience and acheivment into 1 year. And in 2020 we've got EVEN MORE epic-ness planned.... for those of you who have supported us on this epic journey thank you! If there is anything we can wish for you in this new year it's that you chase after your dreams and that you are successful and that you learn more about yourself. .
